TL;DR

How to dispose 4 STEPS Regular collection
  1. 1 Put straight, circular and bulb-type fluorescent lamps (120cm or shorter) into the collection boxes at the ward's cooperating shops, the Taito District Center or Kankyo Fureaikan Himawari.
  2. 2 So they do not break, put them in the box you bought them in or similar if possible, and bring them during the shop's business days and hours (for the facilities, during their opening days and hours).
  3. 3 If taking them to a drop-off point is difficult, put them in a separate bag, write the item name on it, and put them out unbroken as non-burnable garbage (collected twice a month). You may also put them out in the box they came in.
  4. 4 For non-burnable garbage, use a see-through bag or a lidded container and put it out at the designated place by 8am on collection day.

Important Notes

Collection schedules and sorting rules may change. Please check the official website for the latest information.

  • Incandescent bulbs, LED bulbs and broken fluorescent lamps are not accepted at drop-off points. Wrap them in newspaper and put them out as non-burnable garbage. Label broken fluorescent lamps "キケン" (danger).
  • Fluorescent lamps longer than 120cm cannot be put out. Consult the Taito Cleaning Office.
  • Mercury from thermometers, blood pressure monitors and fluorescent lamps got into burnable garbage and caused accidents that stopped the cleaning plant's incinerators. Do not put fluorescent lamps in burnable garbage; put them out as non-burnable garbage or take them to a drop-off point.
  • Drop-off collection is for household items only. Items from shops or businesses are not accepted.
